South County Cats’ founder and Director Sally Halela recently received the Governor’s Volunteer Service Award, Animal Welfare category. Along with other award winners from throughout the state, Sally was honored at a reception at the Governor’s mansion in Olympia on April 9th. Sally has been an animal welfare volunteer for 35 years. She currently volunteers for South County Cats and Regional Animal Services – King County, and has also volunteered for Seattle Humane, MEOW Cat Rescue, Pasado’s Safe Haven and PAWS. Sally started Maple Valley based South County Cats spay/neuter assistance organization in 2006. More than 12.600 cats and 40 dogs have been spayed or neutered through South County Cats’ programs.
The Auburn Valley Humane Society also honored Sally with their Animal Champion award earlier this year.
