Kristin Elaine Granlund lived a beautiful, meaningful life. A humble woman of fierce loyalty and endless spunk, she exuded so much joy, love, and support while asking for very little in return. On April 25, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones, Kris peacefully earned her wings. It is with great sorrow and much love that we mourn her passing.
Kris was born an oldest child in Seattle, Washington to her mother, Helen Day, and her father, Gerry Day. At a young age, her family moved to Maple Valley, Washington where she spent the remainder of her life. In her younger years, she was an award-winning barrel racer, multi-sport athlete, classic rock fanatic, horse lover, and always down for a good time.
She and her husband, Jeff, met when she was 13, started dating at 16, and married at 21, which was only the beginning of an exceptional love story. One that would hold countless memories and an eternity of love. Together they raised three children and built a family that she was so very proud of.
She graduated from Tahoma High School in 1984 and completed her associates degree at Green River Community College. Following graduation, she started her career at Boeing, ultimately deciding to become a full-time stay at home mom instead. For the last 20 years though, she had a fulfilling career cleaning houses. She loved her clients, many of whom she considered friends and family.
She was a devoted, passionate mom who raised her children to be self-assured, take shit from nobody, always be kind, and to take care of those you love. Through many life lessons, she taught her children to live confidently and to be fearless in the pursuit of a wonderful life. In each of them, she instilled strong values of integrity, honesty, and compassion and an even stronger work ethic, all of which they are eternally grateful for.
In her daughters, she leaves behind her unapologetic confidence and unforgettably delightful smile. In her son, she leaves behind her passion for good music and wild child heart. To her husband, she leaves behind their three children who love him beyond comprehension but, more importantly, she leaves behind an undying love full of so many good memories. A rare illustration of true love to so many who knew them.
In her later years, Kris loved weekend brunch with her family, going to the casino, all the Seattle sports teams but primarily the Seattle Mariners. She loved Queen, Michael Jackson, Prince, Ken Griffey Jr., classic rock, watching movies, especially horror movies, shopping, card games, her dogs, quality time with friends, and most of all, God and her family.
If there was a dance floor, she was the first one dancing. Her laugh was one in a million and she never hesitated to throw up the devil horns at any opportunity. She collected crosses for her notorious cross wall and a variety of shoes…she had so many shoes. She despised country music, traffic of any kind, gossiping, the Oakland Raiders, Alex Rodriguez, and seasonal allergies.
Kris was preceded in death by her father Gerry Day. She is survived by her mother Helen Day, her husband Jeff Granlund, daughters Hailey Granlund and Samantha Sran, son Macen Granlund, son-in-law Jota Sran, and her granddaughter Sky Sran. Also survived by her Uncle Rick, Aunt Shelley, brothers Rob and John Day, her sister-in-law Jeannine Day plus many other brothers and sisters in law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and so many beloved friends who’ve become family over the years.
There will be a service to celebrate Kris’s life on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 6:00PM followed by a reception, both located at New Community Church in Maple Valley, WA. This will be open to the public, and the family encourages anyone who knew and loved her to attend. Kris will be so incredibly missed; she was one of a kind and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed.
