Black Diamond

On February 22 at approximately 7:57 p.m. at the 31100 block of 3rd Ave., officers were dispatched to a verbal domestic between a mother and her teenager. Upon arrival, officers contacted the parties involved. It was determined, based on statements and evidence at the scene, that the juvenile had committed the crime of Malicious Mischief, 3rd degree Domestic Violence. The juvenile was transported to King County Juvenile Detention Center.

On February 22 at approximately 1:03 p.m. on the 30400 block of 3rd Ave., officers stopped a vehicle for reckless driving. They found that the driver of the vehicle was transporting his wife, who just suffered a medical condition, to the hospital. Officers requested assistance from the fire department and medics. The female passenger stopped breathing, so officers began CPR. Medical personnel arrived shortly after and stabilized the patient. The patient was then transported to a local hospital.

On February 21 at approximately 7:27 a.m. on the 24400 block of Morgan St., officers received a call regarding a parking complaint. They were advised that a subject who resides on another street wanted to complain about numerous vehicles and a utility trailer being parked on the City right-of-way next to the Black Diamond Cemetery. Per Black Diamond Municipal Code (BDMC), no unlicensed vehicles may be parked on the City right-of-way and is subject to being impounded. All licensed vehicles are allowed to be parked on the City right of way; although, the vehicles must be moved within 24 hours. The utility trailer’s tabs expired in December 2017. Officers contacted the owner of the vehicles and utility trailer and informed him of the BDMC. The owner moved the utility trailer immediately.

Covington

On February 16 at 3:40 p.m. on the 16700 block of SE 272nd St., a plate check of a vehicle in a business parking lot revealed the vehicle was suspect in a mail theft case. A female inside the vehicle was contacted and stated that the male owner normally drives the vehicle, as well as denied knowing anything about the theft. Check of the female revealed she had a felony warrant for failing to appear for Dangerous Drugs. The female, who also had a suspended license, stated she was unaware of the warrant. The vehicle was released to a relative and the female booked into the Regional Justice Center on her warrant.

On February 15 at 11:15 a.m. on the 27300 block of Covington Way SE, a customer let business staff know that her vehicle had been prowled and that some of her products purchased from the business had been stolen. A little while later a male entered the business and wanted to return some items for cash refund. During the return process, it was discovered that the products belonged to the female. The staff informed the male he could only have a gift card in return, which he took before turning around and attempting to sell for cash to incoming customers. During an investigation, the phone number provided for the female on her loyalty number led to a male, who had the number for several years, but did not know the female. A voice message was left at a second number for the female.

On February 14 at 4:54 p.m. on the 17100 block of SE 272nd St., a driver was observed slouching down in his vehicle as he passed a patrol vehicle and his seatbelt not secured. Upon contact, the male appeared to be nervous. He produced an ID card and stated he did not have insurance. Check of the male revealed he had a suspended license and two warrants – Driving While License Suspended, 3rd degree and Driving While License Suspended, 3rd degree/Reckless Driving. The vehicle was impounded, and the male booked into Kent Jail on his warrant. Additional charges included Driving While License Suspended, 3rd degree, not wearing his seatbelt, Failure to Transfer Title within 45 days, and no insurance.

King County
On February 22 at 7:10 p.m. on the 17200 block of 17200 block of 140th Ave. SE, a male suspect was observed entering a business and going to a purse aisle where he pulled eight purses before heading to the front of the business. Once at the front, he dropped three purses and then ran out of the business with the remaining 5 purses without attempting to purchase any of them.

On February 22 at 6:22 p.m. on the 15200 block of SE 175th Pl., after a resident had her license plate stolen and replaced with a stolen plate, which law enforcement had in their possession, the resident received a call from a male stating he was an officer and had her stolen license plate in his possession. She did not get the name of the officer or agency he was with. Check with King County Sheriff’s Office revealed there was no history regarding the plate. The stolen vehicle was still outstanding.

On February 22 at 8:30 a.m. in the area of SE 224th St. and 152nd Ave. SE, a male driver lost control of his vehicle on an icy road and crashed into a ditch. The male decided to leave the scene until he could find help to retrieve it. Several hours later, the male returned, and the vehicle was gone.

On February 21 at 1:09 a.m. on the 17600 block of SE 297th Pl., a male suspect was observed stealing some scaffolding from a job site. The scaffolding was observed in the suspect’s vehicle.

On February 19 at 4:05 a.m. on the 19200 block of Rendon/Maple Valley Rd. SE, deputies were dispatched to a suspicious circumstance where three males and a female were standing around looking inside a resident’s vehicle parked on the property. When the resident yelled at the group, they fled on foot.

On February 17 between 3 p.m. and 2 p.m. of February 18 on the 17700 block of 151st Ave. SE, a resident parked/locked his vehicle, on the road shoulder. When he returned, the driver’s door was unlocked, and glove box gone through. Missing items included registration and insurance card. Upon attempting to start the vehicle, the key would not go in as there was a foreign object stuck in the ignition.

Maple Valley

On February 22 at 5:15 p.m. on the 26900 block of Maple Valley/Black Diamond Rd. SE, according to a business owner, a group of teen males ordered some food. While the owner was not looking, one of the teens grabbed two food items and a large soda from the refrigerator then quickly exited the business without attempting to pay for the items. The owner caught the male, who gave the items back, but the items were not able to be sold, due to not knowing if the male had contaminated them. The vehicle the male suspect had taken off in was located with the male in the passenger seat. When told to exit the vehicle, the male did and stated that his friends dared him to take the items. The 18-year old male was booked into Kent Jail for Theft, 3rd degree.

On February 21 at 11:31 p.m. in the area of Maple Ridge Way SE and 241st Pl. SE, officers were dispatched to a vehicle partially parked on a sidewalk, with the driver passed out behind the wheel and the vehicle still running. Upon arrival the driver was observed to be passed out. After the driver woke up, the officer turned the vehicle off and had the male exit. With a smell of intoxicants coming from the male, he refused to take the Field Sobriety Tests. The owner of the vehicle was contacted and told that his vehicle was being impounded and that the male’s dog needed to be picked up. After taking blood samples due to the male refusing to give breath samples, he was booked into Kent Jail for Physical Control of a Motor Vehicle.

On February 21 at 4:49 a.m. on the 21400 block of SE 274th Pl., officers were dispatched to a vehicle prowl that was interrupted by a resident. While responding to the call, a male and female were located carrying multiple bags as well as were out of breath and sweating in 27-degree weather. The male stated that they were hoofing it from a nearby city before stating they were not going to lie and that they were going into vehicles, as well as were chased by a resident. The resident recognized the suspects as being in front of her house. She stated that she thought the female was the lookout while the male went into her vehicle. The male returned the dollar he had stolen from the vehicle. Recommended charges for the male were Vehicle Prowl and the female for Criminal Attempt Vehicle Prowl.
