Not only will Tahoma National Cemetery (TNC) be hosting a very special Vietnam Veterans Commemoration Ceremony the beginning of April, but it will also be hosting the 100th Anniversary of the US entry into WWI.
The WWI ceremony will be held on Thursday, April 6, beginning at 12 Noon. This very special ceremony will include a brief Wreath Laying ceremony to honor the 100th Anniversary of United States entry into WWI. Prior to the Wreath Lying ceremony, Cemetery Director Thomas Yokes will give a short speech. Military Honors including a rifle salute and taps will also take place during this small intimate ceremony. A similar ceremony will be held at all active National Cemeteries.
Then as previously announced, there will also be a Vietnam Veterans Commemoration Ceremony and Pinning of Vietnam Veterans held on Saturday, April 1, beginning at 11 a.m. Guest speaker for that event is Jim Martinson, a Vietnam Veteran who lost both legs in Da Nang. Vietnam Veterans who have not received a lapel pin are especially encouraged to come. Those eligible to receive the special Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pin during the special ceremony include any living US Veteran who served on active duty in the US Armed Forces at any time during the period of November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975, regardless of location.
Both ceremonies will be held at the main flagpole assembly area. Parking space is limited in the cemetery. Plan to walk to and from your parking spot to the ceremony.
