Grandpa Vanderhof and three generations of his wacky family, the Sycamores, have been happily living their zany lives together in his Manhattan home. The family and their eccentric friends are a madcap group, following their hobbies and living their lives according to their own rules.
But when the sole practical daughter, young Alice Sycamore, becomes engaged to her company’s Vice President, Tony Kirby, the Vanderhof-Sycamore clan must straighten up to meet the new in-laws. Disaster ensues when the Kirbys arrive on wrong date and, despite the best-laid plans, sees Alice’s family in all of its crazy glory. The evening ends with everyone in the house getting arrested, and Alice ending the engagement. Meantime, Tony, who knows the Sycamores are right and his own people wrong, will not give up on her.
Will the two families find a way to accept each other? Will love conquer all? “You Can’t Take It With You” is a madcap, idealistic comedy that reinforces the idea that you can only live life to the fullest by doing what makes you happy.
“You Can’t Take It With You” is written by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman and is presented through special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York. Tahoma Middle School Theatre is located at 24425 SE 216th St., Maple Valley. More info: www.TahomaDrama.org
